About the Event

SWAP invites you to an exclusive interactive demonstration hosted by the Ellensburg Glass Recycling Cooperative (EGRC). See how they turn glass bottles into sand and make a positive impact on our environment. Last year alone, EGRC crushed a whopping 28.5 tons of glass bottles into sand – that's 9 truckloads of bottles transformed into one truckload of sand!

Event Highlights:

  • Session #1 (2:00 PM - 2:45 PM): Learn about glass collection and crushing processes. Feel free to bring clean, label-free bottles to crush. Suzanne Noble, EGRC Director, will guide us through the operations. Sign a waiver and use the crushing machine to become a Glass Ambassador with full access to the EGRC calendar
  • Session #2 (2:45 PM - 3:30 PM): Stay tuned for a follow-up demonstration led by Raven Harlin and Debbie Sonntag of the IOOF Cemetery. Discover how recycled glass sand is used to raise headstones for individuals without proper markers, including the first female Mayor of Ellensburg, who is still awaiting a marked headstone. It's a heartwarming process called "Raising a Headstone with Recycled Glass Sand" to ensure no one is forgotten in this world. Becoming a Glass Ambassador can lead to more lost individuals finding recognition in the IOOF cemetery, where the community comes first.

🍕 Pizza provided for all attendees by our sponsor, Westside Pizza! 🍕
